Indian National Film Awards 2010 Announced
The 57th National Film Awards 2010 was announced on Wednesday at the Shastri Bhawan in the national capital Delhi. 3 Idiots, featuring Aamir Khan was chosen as The Best Popular Film, as Amitabh Bachchan won The Best Actor award for his role in Paa and Malayalam film Kutti Srank won the award in the Best Feature Film category .Other categories included Best National Integration film which went to Delhi 6, award for the Best Debut Director for Sanjay Puran Singh for his film Lahore while the Best Director award went to Rituparno Ghosh for his Bengali film Abhomaan.
Amitabh Bachchan won his third national award for his performance in R Balki’s Paa. He had earlier won the award for his roles in Agneepath and Black and is now tied with Kamal Hassan and Mammootty. Paa won the Best Make Up, Best Hindi Film awards and also won Arundhati Nag the Best Supporting Actress award.
Ananya Chatterjee was chosen as the Best Actress for her role in Abhomaan, Well Done Abba was chosen as the Best Social film, Farooq Sheikh was chosen the Best Supporting Actor for his role in Lahore; 3 Idiots' Behti Hawa Sa Tha Wo was declared the Best Song and Amit Trivedi was awarded Best Music award for Dev D. Swanand Kirkire won the Best Lyricist award for the song ‘Behti hawa sa thha woh’ from 3 Idiots, while Rupam Islam and Nilanjana Sarkar won Best Playback Singer awards in male and female categories.
Meanwhile, southern music maestro Ilayaraja won the award for Best Background Score for his music in Kerala Verma Pazhassi Raja, which also won the Best Malayalam Film Award. Resul Pookutty got the Best Sound Designer award for the same film.
Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey won special jury recognition along with a Malayalam film, Pazhassi Raja and Mammooty starrer Kutty Srank.
Last year’s money-spinner 3 Idiots was awarded Best Film providing wholesome entertainment. However, the surprise winner was Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan’s Lahore, which released to good reviews but went unnoticed at the box-office.
It’s celebration time for Malayalam film industry. Shaji N.Karun’s film Kutty Srank walked away with five awards including Best Feature Film at the 57th National Film Awards
The film also won Best Screenplay awards P.F. Mathews and Harikrishna, Best Cinematography for for Anjali Shukla, Best Costume Design for Jayakumar and Special Jury Award for editor Sreekar Prasad.
Kutty Srank featuring Mammootty, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Padmapriya and Meena Kumari is about a mariner who operates a cargo vessel. It is portrayed from the perspectives of three different women after the death of the protagonist.
