Aayirathil Oruvan (Tamil) – A Selvaraghavan movie

A daring effort from Selvaraghavan that makes movie buffs to wonder with awe. An excellent fantasy film from the director who made his mark in tamil cinema with huge hits such as Kadhal Kondean , 7G Rainbow Colony and Pudhupettai.

Plotline:

The story begins with a war sequence from the 12th century where the ruling Cholan dynasty is facing defeat under the Pandians and the Cholan king sends his heir to a far off island. Pratap Bothan an archaeologist goes to a mysterious place hunting for the lost Cholan princess and is found missing. His daughter Andrea comes to know about his father’s disappearance and sets off with Reema Sen in search of his father and the lost Cholan princess with the help of Karthi, a coolie. The archaeological team with support from security forces sets off on a dangerous adventure into an island which is doomed as the natives say. Their path is warned as dangerous by the tribes and yet they continue their journey. The hard and weary deserts with potholes, hunger and thirst give the trio a hard time and yet as predicted they manage to get into the destructed Cholan empire. The king - Parthiban(surprisingly still alive) comes in a majestic fashion to look at his people dying of hunger waiting for the messenger to deliver them from exile. the trio of Karthi, Reema and Andrea are trapped into world of Chola’s and the question of who among these three is the messenger of Chola’s forms the rest of the storyline.

Positive outcomes:

Artistical cinematography with well colored images.

The gripping screenplay with stellar performances from Karthi and Parthiban are a treat to watch.

Reema plays good as the seductive antagonist.

The costumes, jeweleries, sets and artworks nearly takes us to the era of Chola’s with some brilliant scores from G.V.Prakash.

Goofs:

Andrea doesn’t seem make an impact with her acting skills on the silver screen.

The CGI is not as good as you think think it to be.

Tagline : a new leap in Tamil cinema and a must-watch for movie buffs.

Rating- 4/5
